Darren was born in Ashington, Northumberland in 1970. He studied to be a graphic designer in the late 1980's and
has worked as a commercial graphic artist for more than 20 years in the design, advertising and print industry. Over the years Darren's interest in travel and photography has developed. As a result of combining full time work with several years of part time study and becoming a father, Darren became qualified as a photographer in 2005. He gained distinctions in every module and won the student of the year award. Since becoming qualified Darren has gained the second highest level of distinction, as an associate member of the Royal Photographic Society.
Darren currently lives in Morpeth, the county town of Northumberland with his wife and two children.
Darren began photography using Nikon 35mm film cameras, but quickly realised the need for greater image quality and progressed to using Mamiya medium format cameras. Currently Darren's cameras are digital based and he uses a Nikon D800 in conjunction with a range of high quality lenses. This enables the production of images which are comparable to medium format quality in terms of tonal depth and detail.
